The Power And Mission Of The Word Of God

Author:
Paul A. Bartz

1. It is a wonderous thing for us human beings to have the Word of God, that very same powerful Word which formed the stars in space out of nothing and charged them with their incredible energy, among us for our use in the form of the Bible. Hebrews 11:3 gives us some sense of this power of the Word of God. The world in which we live is very real and it contains some incredible forces. Yet it, along with the stars, are all a result of God's directive use of that powerful Word.

Goal: Our goal in this study is not only to acquaint you with some of the terms and concepts encountered in a study of origins, but also to shed some biblical light on our understanding of these issues.

1.Read Genesis 1:1-2:3 quickly for a brief overview of the Biblical account. In our Bible study A Twenty-first Century Look at Genesis 1, we look at this text in more detail.

Laying the Foundation for the Family

Author:
Pastor Steven T. Cook

Read Psalm 127. We find God's description of the proper family attitudes, in these verses. As we go through it verse by verse, we will see how this compares to what the world is trying to get us to accept.

In verse one, the true foundation of any successful enterprise is found, whether it be the home or the city. Who/what is it? Jesus Christ uses much the same concept in His teaching in Matthew 7:24-27 (which read). Before going on, consider if you are building on the proper foundation.

Turn to I Cor. 3:10-15. In which ways does this passage apply to the subject of the family?

1.Freedom, or "liberation," is not a new idea. Man's history is filled with many definitions of "freedom" and ideas of what freedom is a "liberation" from. Needless to say, however, no human scheme for producing freedom has ever completely satisfied man's seeking for freedom.

The Problem of Holy Week

The Babylonian Calendar. The earliest times for which we have archaeological and historical evidences are those of the Babylonian empire. The Babylonians, or an earlier civilization, celebrated the year as 360 days, that is, the time taken for the Sun to complete its cycle. This is known as the "solar year" but today we understand that the Earth takes 365.2422 days to orbit the Sun. The Babylonians divided the circle into 360 degrees - one degree per day. The Moon's orbit around the Earth takes 29.5 days and orbits the Earth just over 12 times a year.

Creation: Meaning, Order, Purpose

Author:
Robin Fish

Creation is the doctrine which undergirds all other doctrines. It tells us about God, and what the word "God" means, at least in part. We know nothing about God if we know nothing about creation. If we know about creation, and believe, we can understand our basic relationship to God, who He is and what claim He has on our lives and how we live them. It is this understanding that gives us a sense of natural order in our lives, gives us the knowledge of a greater purpose in our lives and gives us meaning or value to our very being.

Inventing the Flat Earth

Author:
Ian Taylor

It's no surprise that the history taught in our schools is a rather dull subject. Virtually all events in history, particularly European history, were motivated by religious causes: Muslims massacred Christians, Catholics slaughtered Protestants, Protestants killed Catholics, and all parties persecuted Jews. In the 1800s schools were run by religious authorities, and children attended the school of their parents' faith. When governments took over education, children of various faiths were all hurled together into the same classroom.

God Describes His Design for the Sea

Author:
Pastor Paul A. Bartz

In Genesis 1:9-10, we have the account of God's separation of the land and the water, which resulted in the creation of the continents and the oceans. We know that God here summarizes what He did because in Job 38:4-18 God provides us with more of the details of His design for the ocean. As we read the details of Job 38:4-18, we see that God's design anticipates needs which we could never have known about, had the design of the oceans been left up to us.

New Age Teachings In The Church

Author:
Paul A. Bartz

As we have summarized this month, New Age teachings, while offering some well-defined positions, are often offered in various terms, depending on what the hearers will tolerate. This has made it possible for New Age proponents to offer their admittedly religious teachings in public education, and distinctly non-Christian religious teachings in Christian churches.
