Has Your Great Great-Grandfather Been Born Yet?
Genesis 5:2
"Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created."
Has your great great-grandfather been born yet? If he hasn't, he's not your great great-grandfather! This might seem like a silly question. But when it comes to the claimed evolutionary fossil...

We would be surprised if we went out in our yards in summer or fall and took the time to really examine what is happening in it. How many kinds of plants are growing, what types of insects are around, if there are even any subterranean creatures working literally under our feet. Looking at familiar texts of the Bible from new viewpoints is very helpful to opening our eyes also.

1. Romans 13:1-7 tells us that the authority of all governments is from God. According to verse 1, where does the government's authority come from? Is a distinction made between "just" and "unjust" governments? Was the Roman government a "just" or an "unjust" government?

Introduction:

The question of origins is the question of where we came from, which ultimately must decide how we live and from where we draw our values and our sense of meaning and purpose in life.

Is the society in which we live a shaper of our lives? Are we really just the products of our environments? Is it true, as we often hear, that since society molds us and makes us what we are, we should not be held responsible for what we do?

On Capital Punishment

Author:
Ian Taylor

The foundations for human morals and ethics are found in the book of Genesis. The issue of capital punishment was given Genesis 9:6, God’s Covenant with Noah upon leaving the ark and entering the new world after the Flood: “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man.” In the former world, from the Creation to the Flood, permission had not been given to take the life of the murderer. Instead, the murderer was to be exiled as in the example of Cain who murdered his brother, Abel (Genesis 4:8-16).

The Pre-Flood World, Part 1

Author:
Ian Taylor

1. The name Genesis that we apply to the first book of the Bible has been adopted from the Greek word GENESIS meaning "beginnings." The Jews call this book BERESHITH which is the first Hebrew word of this book and means "In beginning." Genesis 1:1, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. There is a logical order here: Beginning (time), heavens (space) and earth (matter). The Big Bang Theory has reversed this order. Note that "the heavens" is plural.

The Pre-Flood World, Part 2

Author:
Ian Taylor

1. Following the Fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden, God pronounced the curse, firstly as it would affect the serpent, then Eve, then Adam. Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between you [the serpent] and the woman, and between your seed [serpent's seed] and her seed [Jesus]; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel. When the sainted Jerome (A.D.347-419) translated the Hebrew to produce the Latin Vulgate Bible there was a slip of one letter in the Latin pronoun ipse (his) to ipsa (her).

Promoters of the Humanist Ideal

Author:
Ian Taylor

Ian Taylor1. From Genesis 4:3-5 we see that Abel was a keeper of the sheep while Cain was a tiller of the ground so it would seem quite reasonable for Cain to have brought a grain or fruit offering but this displeased the Lord. From Genesis 3:21 where God made coats of skin for Adam and Eve, it is clear that an animal must have been sacrificed with blood shed to do so.

The Relevance of Genesis

Author:
Ian Taylor

1. The claim is often made that the Genesis account of creation lies in the realm of religion whereas the theory of evolution is a matter of science. It should be stressed that for any endeavor to be classified as "science" it must be observable, repeatable, refutable and, preferably by developed formula, capable of making a prediction. Both creation and evolution fail all criteria.

The Baconian Method of Science

1.  The three basic questions that have faced mankind  since the beginning of time are: Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going? Philosophers have attempted to provide answers based upon human wisdom but these answers vary from one philosopher to the next. On the other hand, a great many people believe that there is a God who created everything and gave mankind the Scriptures in which are found the correct answers to those three eternal questions.

The Genesis Flood

Author:
Ian Taylor

1. Was the Genesis Flood global in extent or just local? Genesis chapters six to eight give a detailed account of a devastating flood brought about by God as a judgment upon Man. Genesis 7:18-24 leaves no doubt that this Flood was global: all the highest hills were covered, all the creatures on the dry land died and only Noah and his family and representatives of all animal life survived the ordeal. Upon leaving the Ark, 376 days later, God gave Noah a covenant promise to never again destroy the earth by a flood (Gen. 9:11).

The Origin of Life

Author:
Ian Taylor

1. Throughout history there have always been those who believe that life began on earth by supernatural creation and others who prefer to stick with the naturalistic explanation that life began spontaneously by chance events from non-living matter. The first view, the biblical view, is called biogenesis meaning that life can only come from pre-existing life. The second view is usually ascribed to Aristotle and is referred to as abiogenesis.

Genius, The Problem of

Author:
Ian Taylor

The December 1, 1986, issue of Time magazine (128:75) reported the case of prodigy Stephen Baccus who, at 17, had just become the youngest known person ever to be sworn in as a lawyer in the United States. He graduated from high school at 12 and from university at 14. Such cases are uncommon and tend to catch the attention of the popular media.
