Discovery and learning are highly valued in our age. Often Christians are seen as being against discovery and learning. And, with evolution and the other claims of our day which seem to run against Christianity, sometimes we are led to believe that we should oppose these values.

In John 3:12, Jesus points out to Nicodemus that if he does not believe what Jesus says about earthly things, which Nicodemus can verify from his own experience, Nicodemus will have even more trouble believing what Jesus has to say about heavenly things.

The Concept of evolution contains within itself the idea that the world is progressing, getting better and becoming more what it can or should be. If the world evolved from cosmic dust, and life spontaneously arose and developed into ever higher and more complex forms, then that idea would fit. But the world was, we believe and confess, created by our God only a few millennia ago.

For years scientists have thought that aging was under the control of a "biological clock"-a cellular function regulating growth and programming cell death. Normal cells divide only a certain number of times before they die. But a puzzle to scientists has been that cancer cells have the peculiar ability to divide indefinitely; they are immortal.
