Genesis 4:20-22
“And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle. And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as...

The Riddle of Kemp's Ridley

in
Psalm 119:140-141
"Thy word [is] very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it. I [am] small and despised: [yet] do not I forget thy precepts."

In man's way of thinking, a small animal – especially one that lives in the ocean – tends to be regarded as unimportant. However, in God's view, all living things are His creation, and not one is ever unimportant. A good example is the smallest of the sea turtles. While most mature sea turtles weigh hundreds of pounds, the Kemp's Ridley weighs only 60 to 100 pounds.

The Dormant Toad

in
Isaiah 43:20
"The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, [and] rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen."

Few deserts are more inhospitable than the Sonoran Desert of North America. Life is so hard there that even the Couch's Spadefoot toad must lie dormant for 11 out of 12 months.

Another All-Wet Theory of Evolution

Genesis 1:27
"So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."

There is a universe of difference between saying that man was created by God, in the image of God, and saying that man is nothing more than a hairless ape. And the fact that man is not covered with hair like the ape has led to a weird, new twist in the theory of evolution.

Man and Horse Domestication

Genesis 47:17a
"And they brought their cattle unto Joseph: and Joseph gave them bread [in exchange] for horses..."

Bones can tell stories. An interesting story of man's relationship with the horse is told by the fossilized teeth of ancient horses. You see, domesticated horses have a habit called crib biting – biting the rails in their corral. Wild horses don't do this. Crib biting creates a specific pattern of wear. So, when scientists find horses' teeth that have this pattern, they know that it comes from a domesticated horse.

Spiders Hurt, Too

in
Proverbs 30:28
"The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces."

Evolution has given people today the idea that there are "higher" and "lower" animals. As a result, many people have come to think, for example, that the so-called "lower" animals don't feel pain. Some people even fault the Bible for using language which speaks of animals experiencing life as humans do.

To Keep the Station Open

in
Psalm 51:2
"Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin."

One of the most unusual arrangements that fish use to keep themselves clean is found on the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. That's where fish known as the cleaner wrasse offer a cleaning service for other fish. Each cleaning station is made up of one male and a harem of females. Other fish come and wait in line for their turn to be cleaned.

Biological Clowning

in
Genesis 1:21-22
“And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.”

When God made fish and told them to be fruitful and multiply, He gave some of them very special abilities so that they could do this. Some 23 families of fish actually change from females to males, or from males to females, to help their species reproduce.

Wrasse Confusion

in
Job 12:8,13
“… or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.... With him [is] wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.”

There is a family of brightly colored fish called wrasse. God’s creativity in this particular family had biologists puzzled for a long time. Evolution could provide no explanation.

Bird Brained

in
Ecclesiastes 10:20
“Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.”

Mankind has been teaching birds to talk for thousands of years. Man has also been using birds to deliver messages for just as long. But new research on the intelligence of birds suggests that they might be more intelligent than we suspect.

The Friendly Cheetah

in
Daniel 6:27
“He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”

Today, we want to tell you more about the cheetah. From a human standpoint, Daniel would have been a whole lot safer if he had been thrown into a den of cheetahs rather than a den of lions.

The Secret of Bee Bread

in
Numbers 13:27
“And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this [is] the fruit of it.”

Bee bread is a highly nutritional derivative, made from pollen by bees. Scientists have understood for some time that worker bees who have just emerged from the comb must eat bee bread so that their glands produce food for the queen and developing larvae. However, older worker bees get by on honey alone. So scientists suspected that bee bread must have a higher nutritional value than honey.

Seeing Heat, Tasting Smells

in
1 Corinthians 13:12
“For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”

The rattlesnake has little pits in its face, under its eyes. Amazingly, these pits are a second pair of eyes that actually see what eyes cannot see! Researchers have learned that there is a membrane stretched over the back of each pit, a thousandth of an inch thick, which is crammed with sensors which pick up the infrared Forked tongue of a Carpet Pythonradiation, or heat, given off by all warm-blooded creatures.

Hunting with the Cheetah

in
Joel 1:6
“For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth [are] the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.”

Just recently we spoke about the Cheetah. No other cat has such speed, and as a result, the cheetah’s tactics are unique, especially since the cheetah will not eat anything it has not freshly killed.

The Magnificent Cheetah

in
Job 38:39
“Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions...”

Of 41 species of cats around the world, the cheetah is one of the most unusual. Unlike other great cats, the cheetah cannot roar, but it can purr like a house cat or emit high-pitched chirps. Beautiful in form, the cheetah is the world’s fastest land animal, reaching a speed of 40 miles per hour from a standstill within two seconds, and can momentarily reach speeds of 70 miles per hour.

Eating Machine

in
Isaiah 65:24-25b
“And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear...They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.”

When a rattlesnake strikes, it is so fast that high-speed photography is necessary to study it.

Those famous fangs of the rattlesnake are mounted on hinges so that they can fold up along the roof of the snake’s mouth when not in use. Each fang is a hollow needle, with a canal on the side of the end of the Skull of a rattlesnakefang through which venom is injected. After only a couple of uses, the fang drops out, to be replaced by another.

The Fragile Rattlesnake

in
John 3:14
“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up...”

The rattlesnake is a dangerous creature, but surprisingly vulnerable. Believe it or not, rodents, rather than being easy victims of the rattlesnake, are one of the rattlesnake’s greatest enemies. Ground squirrels will sometimes attack rattlers, lunging and biting them. Ground squirrels can inflict wounds that become infected and cause the snake’s death. They often get away with this because their reflexes are so much faster than the snake’s.

Is It a Boy or a Girl?

in
Genesis 1:28
“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

Researchers have learned that some fish have an absolutely amazing ability – a specialty that is of considerable help to fish and to man as well. This remarkable gift is the capacity to change sex after they are hatched!

A Dangerous Wonder

in
Matthew 10:16
“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”

The rattlesnake is one of the greater wonders of God’s creation. The eyes of the rattlesnake are different from all other back-boned animals. Rattlesnakes have no eyelids, but their eyes are protected by clear cover-plates. Their yellow lenses slide in and out like binoculars – and, like built-in binoculars, provide detailed magnification of distant objects.

Oldest Bug Is Modern

Genesis 1:24
“And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.”

Did you know that the phrase “according to its kind” appears 10 times in the first chapter of Genesis? Not only is the fact that plants and animals reproduce according to their kind an important principle in the Bible, it is central to modern agriculture and husbandry. What’s more, there is no evidence in the fossil record that any creature ever existed that was in the process of changing from one kind into another.

Anti-Evolutionary Behavior

in
Psalm 14:1a
“The fool hath said in his heart, [there is] no God.”

When the Bible talks about things in the material world that are part of our experience, we find that the Bible is always faithfully true. But there are many things in the creation which contradict the theory of evolution.
