This reminds me of Einstein's cosmological constant. If you've never heard of it, Einstein added in a particular variable to his equations to fit the idea of the day that the universe was not expanding. He later said that this was his biggest blunder. I believe people will look back at these stupid hypothesis in a similar manner and wonder why they added their ridiculous variable. I can't wait until the day when all is known and we combine science with religion.
