Yes, I know God would never approve of the slave trade! Never mind that the Bible actually gives instructions on how hard you can beat your slave... Basically, it's not okay if he dies right away, but if he survives a couple days and then dies, it's fine.

"And if a man beats his male or female servant with a rod, so that he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished. Notwithstanding, if he remains alive a day or two, he shall not be punished; for he is his property."
