The biggest problem I've had debating with theistic evolutionists (TE) is that they have settled themselves into a very comfortable position. They can make a claim to still be faithful Bible-believing Christians and still not experience the discomfort of separating themselves completely from the sinful world. I suppose all of us have trouble with that in different areas, however. But the TE sees literal creationists and atheistic Darwinists as the extremes. They have placed themselves very comfortably in the middle. They only wish the "extremists" could listen to reason and find the peaceful place that they are in. They see themselves as the humble minority with the rational voice of reason in a world of shouting opposites. They have eaten their cake and still have it as well. They seem to possess the best of both worlds. General acceptance by the religious community and tacit tolerance by evolutionary science. Because of the tranquility and sense of "enlightenment" of this position, it is extremely hard to dislodge people from this comfortable middle ground. A step in either direction for them will increase criticism and rock their boat. Many, sadly, are happy there and resist any rocking efforts.
