Textbooks are replete with evolutionary assumptions that are presented as fact. Rock is supposed to be "millions" of years old and distant ancestors are supposed to have existed "millions" of years ago. All of that is rubbish. Feed impressionable minds with rubbish, and guess what comes out of them? You guessed it. Rubbish. It's quite common for a classroom of college students to complain that they can't understand the Declaration of Independence. Do you know why? Their minds are so full of rubbish that they don't have room for anything of value. Our problem with education isn't that we don't have enough textbooks, but that we don't have textbooks that are accurate and valuable.
