In a December 23 story titled "New Fossil Site in China Shows Long Recovery of Life from the Largest Extinction in Earth's History," the ScienceDaily website reported: "A major new fossil site in south-west China has filled in a sizeable gap in our understanding of how life on this planet recovered from the greatest mass extinction of all time."
That extinction – according to scientists from the Chengdu Geological Center in China – took place "some 250 million years ago, at the end of the time known as the Permian." Professor Shixue Hu of the Chengdu Group said: "It has taken us three years to excavate the site, and we moved tonnes of rock. Now, with thousands of amazing fossils, we have plenty of work for the next ten years!"
This new fossil site is certainly welcome news to the scientific community … as well as to hordes of fossil collectors all over the world. However, it is also good news for those wanting to make a quick buck through the sale of fake fossils. The sad fact is that China has long been a world leader in both kinds of fossils.
According to the Paleo Direct Fossils & Artifacts website: "Perhaps no other source for fake fossils has posed such a problem as exists today with fossils from China…. The fake Chinese fossil market is becoming increasingly sophisticated and changing so rapidly that any fossil now originating in China should be approached with caution…. The variety and magnitude of fake Chinese fossils that are sold today is endless. Today, the Chinese will fake ANYTHING in their quest to offer something that is new and exciting to the already-flooded fake market."
The problem of fake fossils from China – including one that ended up on the cover of National Geographic magazine – was also well documented in the DVD Evolution: The Grand Experiment and the book of the same name. For more information on fake fossils from China, see either of these two resources or go to the website mentioned in the previous paragraph.
Manufacturing fake fossils is bad enough. But Creation Moments believes it's even worse when evolutionary scientists manufacture stories that lead people away from the fact that the fossil record actually points to a mass extinction caused by the worldwide flood described in the Bible.
