We Christians often wonder why it is so difficult for the unbelieving world to see the truth, and why individuals will go to such great lengths to try to come up with theories and answers that oppose Scripture. The answer is found in several places in the Bible including Romans 8:7 "The sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so". The key phrase is "nor can it do so". While believers whose hearts have been changed by the power of the Holy Spirit (and NOT of our own doing) can see the truth and understand it, those who reject the Word cannot and will not see that same truth. Pilate asked Jesus "What is truth?" If the Holy Spirit is rejected by the unbeliever, there is no change from the inside, the heart, and consequently no understanding.
