Great hook. I love it. The wood pecker is a fun subject. But, I think Darwinian evolution is really challenged by the fact that animals have genders. Some lower forms of life just divide asexualy. But, animals require male and female genes to reproduce. What life form was the first to "evolve" both genders. How many millions of years did a male or female live before a compatible mate evolved? Why are there no odd creatures today or in the fossil record without mates? I think this question pretty much sinks the evolution mother ship. Remember even the Titanic was said to be unsinkable. Cheers.
