Another attempt to erase Jesus from history
Viewpoint of Mark Cadwallader, Creation Moments Board Chairman
My second-oldest son and I were having a conversation recently about a class he was taking in college – The History of Rome. We began discussing how his professor used the modern secular conventions for designating time – C.E. and B.C.E. instead of A.D. and B.C.
In all his years of homeschooling, my son had never heard these terms before, so he had to look them up. When he discovered that the letters stood for "Common Era" and "Before the Common Era", he was blown away. What a blatant example of how our culture today hates Jesus and wants to remove Him from memory! A.D. and B.C. are so politically incorrect! After all, people shouldn't have to use "Anno Domini" (in the year of our Lord) and "Before Christ" in our politically correct and secular society!
You may be surprised that through all his years of home schooling … and in the countless textbooks he had read … my son had never encountered C.E. and B.C.E. Most of us have heard of these terms by now, but are you aware that they are relatively recent? Most dictionaries greater than 15 years old will not even have an entry for C.E. and B.C.E. Today, however, the new designations are so common, they are considered the norm.
This is clearly another example of the assault on Christianity. Radical atheists have been agitating for freedom from any reference to Christianity and especially its founder. They will disguise and revise history itself to obscure the truth of Jesus Christ. As the Bible informs us, the "spirit of anti-Christ" is among us.
Why don't these same agitators for secularism worry about the names of the days of the week? After all, the days were named after Norse gods like Tiw's day, Woden's day, Thor's day, and Frigga's day. I'll tell you why – because the truth of God in Christ brings an uncomfortable conviction to the heart of sinful and idolatrous man! Our fleshly nature never stops wanting to stand up against the truth of God.
Small wonder, then, that Creation Truth is so hated by sinful man. A Maker/Creator to whom we should be accountable? Heavens NO – we can't have that! Thus, evolution – even with all its inconsistencies and history of revision and fraud – has been a convenient "intellectual excuse" to ridicule and abolish the living Word of God.
God's Divine Son was present at creation, and it was "through Him that all things were created" (Colossians 1:16). The revelation of Christianity is that Jesus Christ is Lord (God), and He became a man for our salvation! Yet, if nature is self-created through evolution, we don't really need God and, therefore, don't need Jesus.
I find it interesting that in the choice of C.E. and B.C.E. they imply a "common" designation for the accounting of history. This obscures the truth. There is nothing in common with other religions about the fact that we are in the year 2012 since the approximate birth of Jesus Christ. One simply cannot escape an acknowledgement of the ascendancy of Christian civilization. The fact is that Western Civilization has largely created modern civilization as we know it … and Western Civilization has been greatly impacted by Christianity.
Truth is truth. And it will prevail. Yet the lens through which we look to view the truth can either obscure it or bring it into clear focus. This is why working to retain a Biblical Worldview is so important. And this is why it's crucial to make all people, young and old, aware of the truth and consistency of a Biblical Worldview. Everyone needs to become aware of Creation Truth – for it sets the foundation. The adversaries of God, in league with the great spiritual adversary himself, will seek to "devour" as many people as possible (1 Peter 5:8). As you know, evolution is one of the most powerful weapons in their arsenal.
At Creation Moments we've been providing the basis for a Biblical Worldview for nearly half a century – so that Creation Truth can come into focus for people. Our radio program continues to deliver the truth to millions all over the world. Thousands are visiting our website to learn even more. And our new Facebook group – Creation Moments Forum – is where many atheists and evolutionists are hearing Creation Truth from living, breathing Christians. It's a battle, but we are destroying their stereotypes of Christians who aren't thinking, rational people.
One atheist, in fact, recently thanked us for hosting a Facebook group where they are free to discuss their point-of-view. She said that other creationist groups on Facebook have censored their comments and kicked them out for their views. Please pray for those of us who are discussing these issues with these atheists on Facebook … and pray that God will help them see that Jesus is their only hope … in this world and the next.
