A Flood of Evidence for a Global Flood
Dear Friend of Creation,
Two weeks ago I sat at a seminar with my chemical company colleagues and listened to lecturers tell us that our conclusions are only as good as our “basis of data”. Six months of data was acceptable for a project, but a year’s worth of data would be even better. Clearly, drawing conclusions about a problem depends on having lots of good data.
I wondered later, “Why don’t evolutionists apply this basic scientific principle?”
Data Set 1: With millions of fossils uncovered, where are all the so-called “missing links” in the database? There should be thousands of transition species, yet the fossil record shows clearly distinct species instead.
Data Set 2: After millions of attempts in the past 100 years to get beneficial mutations in fruit fly studies and other experiments, why haven’t scientists found them? Mutations are invariably harmful or neutral. They are never beneficial.
Data Set 3: Apart from a biological program in living things like metabolism or photosynthesis, why don’t we see simple molecules self-organizing into complex molecules? What we see, year after year and in billions upon billions of cases, are complex molecules decaying and breaking down into simpler ones. Evolution argues for change from the simple to the complex, but the exact opposite is true.
Indeed, lots of good data is on the side of creationists. So then I started wondering, “Why don’t evolutionists accept the possibility of a global catastrophe like Noah’s Flood?” The preponderance of data argues for this possibility.
For example, the clearest explanation for the rock strata visible in the earth and on the walls of canyons and mountains all over the world is for their original deposition as soft, muddy soils from extensive and thorough flooding. Hard, brittle layers of sedimentary rock hundreds of feet thick are often found bent and tightly folded into what are known as synclines and anticlines. Clearly the folding took place when the thick rock layers were, for some reason, very muddy. Flood formation is the best explanation for so much of what we find in geology.
Furthermore, the fact that many of the rock layers contain millions of fossilized plants and animals testifies to their rapid burial under the pressures of a huge flood. Obviously, if dead organisms remain unburied and exposed, they are rapidly scavenged, disintegrate and decay to dust. But with liquefied soil and mud deposition under water pressure, rapid burial of organisms would be extensive, leaving a large fossil record all over the world.
And that’s exactly what we find. The fossil record includes huge numbers of fragile invertebrate organisms worldwide – with fine, delicate details preserved. To preserve the fragile
fossil detail, they would have to have been deeply buried with great rapidity – and the ocean mud accumulation of today is simply not fast enough. A huge watery catastrophe, which changed the face of the earth and rapidly buried millions of creatures to preserve them as fossils, is indeed a very good possibility.
I said to myself, “Clearly something else is going on that trained scientists would ignore basic rules of evidence from the preponderance of data.” And I was reminded of Scripture – “For this they willingly are ignorant of … the world that then was being overflowed with water, perished” (2 Peter 3:5-6). What’s going on is a form of “political correctness”, a basic irrationality due to the depravity of mankind. Man “holds the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18), has “changed the truth of God into a lie” (Romans 1:25) and is truly “without excuse” (Romans 1:20).
The catastrophe of Noah’s time was certainly no ordinary flood and included more than flooding (“all the fountains of the great deep were broken up” (Genesis 7:11) – e.g., molten eruptions, upheavals and watery expulsions. Not only is this plain from a reading of the Bible, but it is also indicated by use of the verb form of the Greek word ‘kataklusmos’ in the 2 Peter 3:6 reference – translated as “overflowed with water”. This is the word from which we get our English term “cataclysm”. It is not the normal Greek word for flood, but refers to THE great flood of Noah.
Indeed, the preponderant evidence from geological data is corroborated by the evidence from the Bible. A great watery cataclysm changed the face of the earth in a catastrophic makeover which did not require millions or billions of years but merely a few thousand years to account for earth history. This timeframe fits “coincidentally” with the ages of the world’s oldest civilizations and of written history. Furthermore, global flood legends are known to hundreds of tribes and cultures – corroborating through corrupted retelling, the biblical account.
Creationist conclusions have a very good “basis of data”. Yet, that excellent preponderance of evidence is buried as “politically incorrect” in mainstream science, academia, the media and government. This is why at Creation Moments we must continue to boldly “proclaim the evidence for truth”. Thanks to you, we are making an impact!
"I really appreciate hearing you uncover God's wonders. And I chuckle daily as you drive another nail in the evolutionist coffin." – D.C.
"Because of the Today's Creation Moment emails I receive, my faith grows every time I go to my email!" - O.D.
"I listen to Creation Moments on the radio every night. It truly is a blessing. I use some of your points as answers to my biology teacher." - M.B.
As you know, evolution is well funded by godless individuals and institutions that are determined to undermine the Bible and stop the proclamation of the gospel. Won’t you help us stay on the front lines of battle? A donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated!
Yours in Christ,
P.S. Today, the idea of a flood so powerful that it could cover every square inch of the earth is unthinkable. But there is a great deal of solid evidence that such a flood did occur – evidence both from Scripture and science. That’s why I’m excited to send you a book called Five Evidences for a Global Flood for a gift of any amount. To make a donation, call 1-800-422-4253 during regular office hours or click here.
