The Days in Genesis
Genesis 1:5
“And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”
Silently, a huge, powerful form slides through the deep, cold, dark depths of the sea. The men aboard the nuclear submarine have seen neither sun nor daylight for months, yet each one knows what day...

Before our eyes - the fulfillment of Romans 1:25

Mark CadwalladerDear Friend of Creation,

Many years ago, more than two hundred Catholic priests were massacred by angry mobs in a single city in a 48-hour period. Hundreds more in other locales were massacred or imprisoned and made to suffer in abominable conditions. The campaign of de-Christianization went on for at least a dozen years, removing crosses and statues from many graveyards and leaving only a single inscription on cemetery gates saying – “Death is an Eternal Sleep”. Churches were turned into “Temples of Reason” while religious holidays were banned and replaced with holidays to celebrate the harvest and other nature-based events.

“Festivals of Reason” were held at the converted churches – the largest ceremony being held in November 1793 at the defaced Notre Dame Cathedral/Temple of Reason. Festive girls in white Roman dress and tricolor sashes milled around a costumed Goddess of Reason who impersonated “Liberty”. Many in the ruling Convention of the French Revolution attended the Notre Dame festival, where it was declared that henceforward there would be “one God only – Le Peuple”.

Festivals of reasonThe Christian calendar was replaced by the French Republican Calendar, which made the 7-day week into a 10-day week, abolished the Sabbath, Saints days and any reference to Jesus or the church, counting year 1 as 1789 for the overthrow of the Bastille. Gilbert Romme, who headed the Committee of Public Education in charge of the new calendar, asserted that it be “faithful to natural cycles”. He said, “Reason demands that we follow nature rather than servilely continuing on the erroneous path of our predecessors.” The theories of the Enlightenment were at their peak, and people looked to nature for their inspiration. The enlightenment philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, for example, held that “uncorrupted morals” prevail in the “state of nature”.

What does all this have to do with evolution, you might ask?

Well, it’s the elevation of nature above God – the basic problem of man, prophesied in Romans 1. Furthermore, Charles Darwin’s famous grandfather, Erasmus Darwin – a celebrated intellectual of his day who greatly influenced his grandson – was a man who came into his fame at the time of this nature-based de-Christianizing movement on the European Continent. Erasmus Darwin published Zoonomia, the Laws of Organic Life in 1794, a work which included his evolutionary suppositions throughout and provided a basis for his grandson’s famous book Origin of Species six decades later.

Erasmus Darwin penned a poem, “The Temple of Nature” , which illustrates his views quite clearly:

    The Temple of Nature

   Organic life beneath the shore-less waves
   Was born and nursed to Ocean’s pearly caves;
   First forms, minute, unseen by spheric glass,
   Move the mud, or pierce the watery mass;
   These, as successive generations bloom,
   New powers acquire, and larger limbs assume;
   Whence countless groups of vegetation spring,
   And breathing realms of fin, and feet, and wing.

Charles Darwin essentially took the nature-based philosophy of his grandfather’s day and made it appear scientific – through his voluminous collections and observations of various species from his many nature walks and famous voyages on the HMS Beagle.

Nature is indeed the idol of evolution. Nature is a constant appeal to the depraved, sin-inclined heart of man – whether as a golden calf or as a philosophical temple to human reason. As the Bible puts it, for they “changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.” (Romans 1:25)

This month, February, the American Humanist Society is trying to get Darwin Day and Evolution Sunday advertised and celebrated. They want to equate evolution with science, using Darwin’s birthday for a holiday commemorating science – of all things! And they want people to think that evolution and the Christian faith are compatible! In fact, evolution is a Trojan Horse by which they seek to defeat and de-Christianize society.

In our scientific day, evolution is the primary way in which nature supplants our Creator in the hearts of man. That is why it is so important that your ministry, Creation Moments, continues to expose the masquerade! Thank you so very much for all your help and support in working with us to do this!

Yours in Christ,

Mark Cadwallader, Board Chairman

Moments with Gods Creation 3P.S. I’m excited to send you our brand new DVD – Moments with God’s Creation 3when you donate $35 or more to Creation Moments. Like our two earlier DVDs, it contains dozens of videos based on some of our best broadcasts. Through stunning photos and video footage, Moments with God’s Creation 3 looks at a variety of biblical creation topics, with a special focus on unusual animals and plants that display the ingenious mind of God.

The DVD also includes a bonus feature I produced with my son Michael. The Modern Creationist Movement shows why the battle between evolution and biblical creation continues to be one of the most controversial issues of our time. And we share what Creation Moments has been doing – and continues to do – through God’s guidance and grace!

To receive Moments with God’s Creation 3 – or to make a tax-deductible donation of any amount – donate online or call us toll-free at 1-800-422-4253 during regular office hours.
