Puffing Us Up with Fermentation
Dear Friend of Creation,
“Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened.” – 1 Corinthians 5:6b-7
In a parable of the kingdom, Jesus described a woman putting leaven into three measures of meal “until the whole was leavened” (Matthew 13). Leaven (yeast) is a fermenting agent, an agent of decay, and the parable of the leaven depicts corruption influencing the Church.
The Bible uses leaven to represent false doctrine as well as sin, teaching that the corrupting influence of false doctrine can spread throughout an entire body, just as “leaven leavens the whole lump.” Evolutionism has done this to Christian civilization and to many modern-day churches and denominations. The Church should actually be like unleavened bread, the ideal, as represented in the Passover dinner, so the woman in the parable did something God prohibits. She put the leaven – representing the false teaching – in the meal.
We’ve written before how many of the 19th century theologians felt the pressure to compromise with the new science of their day, which was under the influence of “uniformitarianism”. This led to a “scientific history” replacing biblical history, even within the church.
Thomas Chalmers proposed “the gap theory” in 1814, suggesting that there was a long, undetermined gap of years between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2, allowing for an old earth and for evolution. Charles Darwin’s publication of The Origin of Species called for an even longer timeframe for the age of the earth. The gap theory was then fully developed and promoted by other notable theologians, such as C.I. Scofield in his widely used Scofield Study Bible. Other old-earth concepts – such as the day-age theory – were also taught in response to evolutionism. Perhaps the most dangerous theory of all was – and still is – Theistic Evolution. It is basically the belief in evolution but saying that God used evolution to create over millions of years. Theistic Evolution is the doctrine held by many, if not most, churches within Christendom today.
As evolutionism took hold in society, so-called “higher criticism” – or what might be more accurately called “higher skepticism” – of Christian doctrine became popular in some intellectual and theological circles. Supported by evolution, higher skepticism begins with the assumption that much of Genesis and much of the rest of the Bible cannot really be believed. It goes on to teach that the first generation of Christians was somehow incapable of remembering or uninterested in recalling accurately what Jesus said and did – eventually attempting to debunk all of the Bible!
Today, in varying degrees, an appalling number of pastors and church leaders have been affected by this evolution-influenced “higher skepticism” because it has become equated with being intellectual. Thus, the corrupting leaven of false doctrine has spread throughout the church.
And this brings us back to the great mission and ministry of our day – the ministry of creation science. Never has it been more important to refute the false claims of evolutionism and its various outgrowths. It is crucial to proclaim the truth that the Bible is to be believed, not debunked! “Skeptical” analysis is not the same as critical analysis. Accurate scientific and historical critique of the Bible and of Jesus is incredibly supportive of traditional Christianity.
At Creation Moments, we have made it our mission for 50 years now to proclaim the truth of God’s Word, helping misguided Christians and non-Christians alike to believe the Bible. We are also committed to helping believers know how to defend their faith in Jesus and their trust in the Word of God. Consider what the following folks have written:
“I thank God for Creation Moments – how you stand for the truth of creation in times like these when it seems evil is winning the world over to the side of the enemy. But we know that in the end we win, and evil will be put in its place once and for all. Keep on blessing us with encouraging words of wisdom.” – L.H.
“Your Creation Moments have been, and continue to be, a great blessing on my own radio program which airs on a totally secular station here in Southern Spain. I use the thoughts regularly and find them to be excellent in every way! Thank you for faithfully sending them to me over the years.” - M.C.
Won’t you please help us continue to deactivate the leaven that is fermenting within the hearts and minds of millions who have been poisoned with the leaven of evolutionism? This is truly the great battleground of our times! God bless you for supporting us, both financially and with your prayers!
Yours in Christ,
Mark Cadwallader, Board Chairman
P.S. One of the most common and confusing questions of our time is now answered convincingly by Dr. Werner Gitt, an information specialist who has studied the creation-evolution debate for decades. Did God Use Evolution? is his brand new book revealing that you don’t need to compromise your faith no matter how forcefully the educational system proclaims evolution is true!
Another great resource on this topic is the DVD, Old Earth Laodicean Compromise. Many people are trying to add long periods of time into the Bible, even quoting Scripture to do so. This hour-long DVD provides answers to these lies. After watching it, you’ll have no doubt that evidence of an old earth is not found in the Bible.
I will be happy to send you Did God Use Evolution? for a gift this month of $30 or more. If you prefer the Old Earth Laodicean Compromise DVD, it’s yours for a gift of $40 or more. You can receive them both when you make a donation of $65 to Creation Moments. To request either or both of these items, click here or call us toll-free at 1-800-422-4253 during regular office hours.
Let me just say that a donation of any amount will be put to good use in spreading the gospel and the truth of biblical creation. Regardless of the size of your donation, I will send you a terrific Bible study written by Ian Taylor – Compromise and the Faith. The Bible study takes a closer look at many of the old-earth theories that undermine the clear teachings of Scripture.
