Thanksgiving in a world that's turning its back on God

Mark Cadwallader

Viewpoint of Mark Cadwallader, Creation Moments Board Chairman

I don’t know about you but November is one of my favorite months. Even before October ended, I peeked at the November page of my 2014 God’s Creation Appointment Calendar. Instantly I thought of Thanksgiving. And the Bible verse at the top of the beautiful autumn picture reminded me of how blessed I am to live in a nation that has a national holiday celebrating our Creator: “Bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.” (Deuteronomy 8:10b)

If you keep up on the news, our nation – indeed, our world – seems to be in all-out rebellion against God. For most people, Thanksgiving is nothing more than a four-day weekend, turkey and a family get-together. But for those of us in the US and Canada who know and love the Lord, Thanksgiving is also a time to thank our Creator for the many blessings He has bestowed upon us.

This year I am thankful for so many things – especially for our outreaches to the people of Western Siberia and, more recently, the folks in Morden, Manitoba. I’ll let Board Member Dr. Don Clark describe what he did there in his own words.

After my daughter and I arrived in Canada, I spoke to about 60 people at a local church on the subject of the Ice Age. After my 45-minute lecture, folks stayed for another 45 minutes to ask questions. One family told me that their son had taken his Bible to school and was told he could not bring it or read it at school – something that is becoming more common in the US as well. We are certainly in a battle for the minds of our children! I was able to encourage the family and told them that they were not alone in this battle.

On Thursday morning I spoke at a women's prayer breakfast for about 20 minutes. Because I was speaking, men were invited as well. I encouraged them about the validity of Scripture. That evening we showed the movie Unlocking the Mystery of Life at the local theater. After the movie I commented on it and then answered questions for probably about an hour afterwards. Folks were encouraged and thanked me for coming.

creation boothFriday started the Corn and Apple Festival in Morden. My daughter and I served at the Creation booth for three days to help support the local Creation association. Many folks came by the booth during these days and were very encouraged that we were there proclaiming the truth.

There was an atheist/secular humanist booth not far from ours. Some of them came to talk with us mainly to say that the Bible is a book of hate and full of contradictions and that religion was the cause of all wars. No evidence to the contrary would sway them from their convictions. Like many of us before we came to Christ, their eyes are blinded to the truth. Discussing facts was a pointless exercise, and it became abundantly clear to me that one needs to get to the heart before minds are changed. So we prayed for them and left it to the Holy Spirit to convict.

I also gave Creation materials to two men from the underground church in China. I gave them many videos and booklets to take back with them so they can get the materials duplicated and translated to distribute to the underground church. For me, this made the whole trip worth it! Who would have thought that serving in a small farm community would result in meeting folks from halfway around the world who were seeking materials to take back to the underground churches in China? God is truly amazing!

Yes, God is truly amazing … and so are the people of God who help make such an outreach possible. We couldn’t have sent Dr. Don to Canada – or to Russia a few months ago – without the prayers and financial support of people like you. Because you recognize the importance of proclaiming biblical creation in a world dominated by evolutionary indoctrination, our ministry – your ministry – is making a difference in people’s lives all over the world.

“I live in Eastern Uganda and I always listen to your messages on an FM station. You have blessed and encouraged me. I love you so much. God bless you.” – K.F.

“As a retired pastor on a fixed income, I wish I had been able to have our ‘mission church’ support you more! You are a blessing to these tired bones of mine. I am sending a gift to encourage you in this most-necessary ministry.” – D.E.

“Aloha! I’m from Hilo, Hawaii, and was raised in the lies of evolution until hearing your radio program on our local Christian radio station, after which it gave me a renewed understanding in my walk with Christ.” – P.K.

“I just wanted to thank all of you guys before God Himself for all you do to fight The Big Lie and to promote God’s Viewpoint – the only one that matters. It takes a whole lot of work to do what you do, and we, the recipients, are most grateful.” – T.L.

Thank you again for standing with us, praying for us, and giving to the crucial ministry of the truth of creation! May God bless your Thanksgiving and the whole Christmas season as the year 2014 draws to a close. As partners in ministry, let us proclaim together: “Thanks be to God who always leads us in His triumph in Christ!”
