Today's Creation Moment

Why Do We Get New Species?
Genesis 1:24-25
And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God...
We know that Noah did not have to fit two of every species of animal on the Ark. The Ark sheltered two of every kind of land and flying vertebrate, not two of every species. For example, modern...

Utopian Terror in the 20th Century

Viewpoint of Mark Cadwallader, Creation Moments Board Chairman

In the 20th Century at least 207 million people were killed in government-sponsored persecutions, mass murders, genocides and wars.

Paradoxically, the lure of “progress” was used to justify the horrific loss of life in the century’s mass violence. Utopian ideologies – asserted through force and terror, claiming that the “end justified the means” – appealed eerily to evolution. “Social Darwinism”, “scientific socialism”, “total war”, “scientific racism”, “progress through conflict”, “back to Nature” movements – all propped themselves up with the so-called “science” of evolution which had taken hold in the previous century.

Indeed, this is why it is so important to study history. As we learn how to distinguish true science from pseudoscience, we are better able to reason in light of God’s truth! In fact, education is one of the main purposes of Creation Moments … and this is why we carry so many books and DVDs in our bookstore about the devastation that evolution has wreaked on mankind.

Darwinian evolution was involved with every element of 20th Century horror – from WWI, which was a direct outgrowth of evolutionary teaching in Germany, to the Bolshevik Revolution. Then there was Soviet Communism under Stalin, the Nazis and WWII (the Japanese were the Aryans of the east), Chinese Communism under Mao Tse Tung, communism during the Cold War, the Khmer Rouge of Cambodia (Kampuchea), the Rwandan genocide – the list goes on and on … and evolution was behind it all!

Evolution had supposedly demonstrated that “survival of the fittest” is the engine of progress, driving improvements and human perfectibility through conflict and death, advancing one race of men over another, and making Nature the highest good (naturalism/materialism) in place of God.

Many people believed that we should extend “science” to “social science”. Might makes right – elimination of the less fit was the way Nature perfected itself and, therefore, the way that human society should perfect itself as well.

Karl Marx believed that all history was a history of class conflict, with society passing (evolving) through different phases of production – from slavery through feudalism, then capitalism and a final situation in which the working class took over state power and abolished class distinctions (“the dictatorship of the proletariat”). When he died in 1883, Marx was hailed as “the Darwin of politics.”

Driving the people into rural communes in Stalinist Russia and Mao’s China … emptying entire cities into communal camps by the communist Khmer Rouge … killing millions who were too “infected by civilization” or “poisoned by religion” – these were all seen as ways to purge society of its ills and get back to naturalist/materialist processes which would improve society. Mao Tse Tung’s communal program – which he called “The Great Leap Forward” – connotes the expectation of a mutational leap. It failed horribly (as mutations tend to do), resulting in the mass starvation of millions.

Little publicized has been the evolutionary pseudoscientific basis for Rwanda’s genocide of 800,000 minority Tutsis by the Hutu over a period of 100 days in 1994. Going back to Belgian colonial rule, the indigenous people had been classified by eugenics measurements and made to carry an I.D. designating their “race”. The broad-nosed, shorter, smaller-headed and darker-skinned working class Hutu slaughtered the taller, lighter-skinned, sharper-nosed and generally more wealthy Tutsi as well as their sympathizers, with the Hutu government ordering half a million machetes and broadcasting hit lists and hate songs over the radio to spur them on. The Hutu had developed a Marxist-style ideology which valued Hutu purity through separation.
God and Christianity were repudiated by the leaders of the various 20th Century terrors, as they became enamored with Darwinism and put their own godless ideologies and philosophies into practice. Millions of people went along with the programs, working as informers and secret police to betray their neighbors and ensure that others would follow the plan of the government, buying into the utopian vision that the end (the perfectibility of human society) justifies the means – including terror, murder and government control.

We need to accept biblical truth. God is the Creator and we are the fallen creature – given to rebellion, greed, envies, love of power, pleasure, and things, with enmities, ambitions, resentments and other sinful impulses. This understanding should be “the practical maxim for the direction of our political conduct,” as Alexander Hamilton put it in Federalist Paper No. 6. The American Founders understood the biblical teaching about man’s depravity and developed a Constitution with constraints on the internal and external excesses of depravity in the various branches of government.

Human nature is not a blank slate to be molded and re-made or re-evolved in a program of increased perfectibility. Human nature is, instead, consistently prone to spiritual, mental and physical failure – year after year, generation after generation. The central truth – stemming from biblical teaching and flying in the face of evolutionary ideas – is that the creation has been corrupted by sin. Therefore, human nature is corrupt and in need of redemption. The creation itself is also in need of redemption, devolving rather than evolving.

At Creation Moments, we are all about biblical truth. And we are all about the truth of creation, exposing the lie of evolutionism. We are so grateful for your stance with us! We all need to stand strong in our culture today. As the American Founders said, “Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom.” And since it is “the truth that sets you free” (John 8:32), eternal vigilance for the truth is the price of freedom. That is how we will escape the next supposed utopian imposition and its accompanying terror.
