Dawkins Becomes a Creationist

As a product of the public school system, I always assumed that evolution was fact. Majoring in science in college, I began having my doubts about the scientific logic of evolution. The first organism that I learned about that was not explainable by evolution was the woodpecker. There is no way that it could have evolved with so many specialized organs. It could only be explained by being created with all of its specialized organs all at one time. It still took me about 15 years to come to the conclusion that God created the heavens and the earth in six literal days.

Christianity explains the basics of science – biology, chemistry, geology, physics, astronomy. They are all based on an orderly, predictable set of laws. And if life is ruled by these laws, then there has to be One who created those predictable sets of laws.

Understanding that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, scientists can more fully understand and interpret data accurately. Whether a scientist is an evolutionist or a creationist, they will interpret the data according to their worldview. Both scientists have to have a faith in what they believe. I feel I have a more complete understanding of the sciences by the revealed Word of God.

After graduating from veterinary school, I practiced small animal medicine, small animal emergency practice, and worked as a pathologist in a toxicology research laboratory. After having my first child, I decided to make a career change to become a full-time home educator for our four children. They have all graduated now, but I am still teaching high school science to homeschoolers. I enjoy sharing my love of science, revealing God’s creation to my students.

Today’s guest blogger is Karen E. Dawkins. She has earned a Bachelor of Science degree as well as a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.

THIS was a very misleading title. Most of us assumed it was RICHARD Dwakins. While I am happy this young woman saw the light .... this was NOT the way to title this particular article .... COME ON ... YOU KNOW better than to do this .......

Actually, Mr. Anonymous, we used such a headline to attract more people - atheists and evolutionists included - to read the article. You say you are happy that this young woman saw the light. If the headline said "Karen Dawkins Becomes a Creationist", we doubt you would have read it.

Great hook. I love it. The wood pecker is a fun subject. But, I think Darwinian evolution is really challenged by the fact that animals have genders. Some lower forms of life just divide asexualy. But, animals require male and female genes to reproduce. What life form was the first to "evolve" both genders. How many millions of years did a male or female live before a compatible mate evolved? Why are there no odd creatures today or in the fossil record without mates? I think this question pretty much sinks the evolution mother ship. Remember even the Titanic was said to be unsinkable. Cheers.

You got me! I thought that it was Richard Dawkins too! Good post.

It is a tactic of unbelievers to bait and switch. Exploitation of the title with a mismatching article is fraudulent and disappointing. I do not believe this glorifies God in any way. Please do not use misleading titles for commentaries in the future; it is just like telling a lie. Creation Moments should reflect the Creator in his holiness, not human creativity in baiting readers. Our motives must be holy. Let the Spirit of God be responsible for the results of obedience to God.
Thank you.

Our goal was to motivate everyone - including atheists and evolutionists - to read a story about a scientist who turned away from evolution and became a creationist. As you can see from the comments above, most people were surprised and amused when they saw that the article was about Karen Dawkins and not Richard. They weren't offended. If we had used "Karen Dawkins Becomes a Creationist" as the title of the article, how many people do you think would have read it? A few Christians might, but how many atheists and evolutionists?

Hahahahaha! Yup, I was drawn in by the title. Thought it was Richard too. But I like the tongue in cheek title. It IS true. So no harm done. And my kudos to Dr. Dawkins for acknowledging that many rational thinking scientists choose creationism based on common sense and the facts.

BTW, I asked a professor of biology who taught at a college in Philadelphia (up until June '12) what he had against the creation scientists' arguments and after much hemming and hawing he admitted that he had NEVER READ ONE ARTICLE BY THEM!....Oh. So I guessed that his denial of the credibility of their points were either a) regurgitation of what he heard other academics say or b) evidence of his "faith".

You make some very good points, Glenn! I suspect that the typical evolutionist has never read anything by creation scientists. Their minds are so made up, they don't feel it's worth the bother. Besides, what would their peers think if they saw him carrying around a copy of "The Genesis Flood" ... or if they looked at the "history" in his browser and discovered he had spent time at the Creation Moments website???

The idea that anyone could confuse one of the greatest biologists who ever lived, a man with advanced degrees in biology with someone with a bachelor's of science degree is absurd.

So why did you read the article?

I wear a white coat and scrubs to work, so when I was stopped on the way and asked, "Are you a vet?" I thought he was asking whether I was a veterinarian; so I said, "No, I'm an MD." Then he said, "Well, I wondered if you're a veteran, since you have an American flag on your lapel, and this is Veteran's Day." I was embarrassed that I had misunderstood his question, and said, "Actually, yes, I am a veteran of both the Navy and the Air Force, and thank you for remembering Veteran's Day!"

The point? Context is everything. Richard Dawkins is so well known as an anti-creationist that many people reading this site would immediately think of "Richard" when we see "Dawkins." We also think of only one Darwin, Charles, not George.

If Karen is using her real name, why should anyone feel they were misled by the headline? And wouldn't it be wonderful if Richard Dawkins's wife, son, daughter, or other relative believed in Biblical creation? We should pray that all the Dawkins of the world come to know the true Creator, the One who gave His life for them.

Bless you Dawkins, thank you for your insightful journey in your evolution journey. It's people like you that God uses at times like this to make a difference. Testimonies are a powerful instrument in changing lives, thank you for contribution.
